Our Family All-time Favorite – Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

A mother held her new baby and very slowly rocked him back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.  And while she held him, she sang :

"I’ll love you forever,

I’ll like you for always,

As long as I’m living

my baby you’ll be."

This is the story of how that little boy goes through the stages of childhood and becomes a man.  It is also about the enduring nature of parent’s love and how it crosses generations.  It is also our family all-time favorite book that we enjoy to read – over and over again over years.

Every time I read this touching book, it brings back so many memories, those with laughter and tears, those between you and me, me and them, those when I read it to him, he read it to me, they read it to me and we read it together.

I still remember the first time how I put J on my lap and rocked him back and forth, back and forth when I read this book to him.

I still remember how I made up the tune of the song : I love you forever, I like you for always, As long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.  Believe it or not, the song is exactly the same as how Robert Munsch sang in his official website.

I still remember the first time we read the book together.  Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes, I know Robert Munsch is a wonderful storyteller and narrator, but I still like my home-made version more. LOL!!!

I still remember the first time J read the book to me all by himself.  This was the time when I realized that my kids will soon grow up and I have to let them go at that time.

I still remember the first time J recited the whole story to me in my car at the time I was in tantrum of postnatal blue after the second pregnancy.  His reading was so heartwarming that I burst into tears and couldn’t stop even when the car had to stop by the red traffic light while other drivers and pedestrians were shocked to see my crying face.

I hope my sons will read this book in my funeral.
I love you forever, J and M.
I love this book forever, too.
